I was able to catch the X76 bus back to Clacton from here, there is a good convenience store at the station selling almost everything to eat & drink for your journey as well as an undercover small waiting area with seating showing bus departure times.
What a welcome to Colchester. No toilet sign and no staff to tell you if buses are delayed. So my sister in law from Australia arrived with crossed legs and a friend missed his holiday because the bu he was booked on was 1 hour late due to an accident on the A12. A DISGRACE. Sue Hempstead
This so-called 'bus station' is an embarassement to Colchester! Some of the shelters smell of urine, there is an air of Third World about it and enough undesirables to make you feel you should keep your head down and eye contact will give you a punch in the face! Even worse in the evening and if you are a tourist either British or foreign avoid at all costs!
The council has always suffered from delusions of grandeur so when it was offered a subsidy to build a prestigious, but totally unneeded, white elephant of an art centre, it not only agreed but gave the old central bus station away as its site: who cares about the poor (and even less the handicapped) who cannot or will not use a car, or about the rate payers who will have to fork out for ever to maintain this "free gift"? They added a small (and seldom manned) information kiosk to a distant bus stop and called that the new "bus station." Shame on them, but this council has no shame, whether its majority be Tory, Liberal or Labour, or even a "no working majority." Sorry I had to give it even an (unmerited) single star to get my review published.
Not the most informative of bus stations and more of a bus stop. They lock the inside area on a Sunday around 16:00 so just hope it's not raining.
